At Container Conversions, we pride ourselves on turning functional spaces into meaningful experiences, and few projects demonstrate that better than our work at The Long March to Freedom in Century City, Cape Town.
This one-of-a-kind open-air exhibition tells the story of South Africa’s long and hard-fought journey to democracy through a powerful procession of over 400 life-sized bronze statues, each one honouring a South African who helped pave the path to freedom. From well-known icons like Nelson Mandela to lesser-known but equally important figures, the exhibition is a moving reminder of the sacrifices and victories that shaped our country.
A Site of Heritage and Innovation
We were honoured to contribute to this historic project by supplying and converting five shipping containers, each designed to serve a specific purpose on-site:
1. A coffee shop for refreshments
2. A ticket office to welcome guests
3. An on-site office
4. Two storage units to support operations
The coffee shop and ticket office were fully customised from scratch, while the remaining three containers were adapted from standard units, each fitted with client-specified modifications to meet practical needs while maintaining the visual harmony of the site.
These containers not only serve visitors every day, but they also stand as a testament to the versatility and impact of modular solutions.

At Container Conversions, we believe that containers can do more than store goods. They can tell stories, support communities, and create unforgettable experiences. We’re proud to have played a role in one of South Africa’s most meaningful tributes to its heroes.
