At Container Conversions, we thrive on challenges, and our latest project for Subtech pushed us to the limits in the best possible way. Designing and building a custom decompression chamber to meet the exacting demands of subsea pipeline maintenance was a complex task, but seeing it fully operational on site makes every detail worth it.

Built to Perform Under Pressure – Literally

This was no ordinary container conversion. From the outset, the project required precision engineering and bespoke solutions. We incorporated stainless steel closures around the equipment-room openings, ensuring durability and safety. The chamber itself was securely fastened directly to the container’s floor frame to withstand the rigorous demands of subsea operations.

Every element of this build was crafted with safety, functionality, and reliability in mind – essential qualities when lives depend on flawless performance.

From Workshop to Open Water

After extensive stress-testing here at our yard, the decompression chamber has been deployed with Subtech South Africa, now fully operational on site, out at sea. It’s rewarding to see a specialised build like this performing exactly as designed in such a critical environment.

Subtech South Africa, led by MD Anton Van Zyl, is currently executing the single biggest subsea pipeline maintenance project in South Africa – a testament to their expertise and reputation as market leaders in subsea pipeline inspections, repairs, and maintenance. And with another major pipeline project recently awarded, their commitment to excellence continues to push boundaries.
